Programme Overview

About this Programme

Gatehouse describes this award in unusually direct terms: a broad bridging qualification for learners from psychology and non-psychology backgrounds who need a comprehensive academic foundation across the core areas of the subject before starting MSc-level study. If your degree was in nursing, teaching, social work or business and you now want to move into psychology properly, that is the gap this is built to close.

The six units cover the discipline rather than a slice of it. Philosophical and theoretical foundations come first, then biological, cognitive and affective processes, then social, cultural and developmental influences, then psychopathology and intervention, then individual differences and psychometrics, and finally research methods. Each is 20 credits at Level 7, adding up to 120.

Read this next line carefully, because it is Gatehouse's own and it matters more than anything else on the page. The qualification provides academic preparation for postgraduate study in psychology. It does not confer eligibility to practise as a psychologist or to deliver psychological interventions. Treat any provider who suggests otherwise with caution.

Why Choose

Why Choose This Programme?

01

Designed as a conversion route

Gatehouse built it for people coming from outside psychology who need the full academic grounding before an MSc will take them seriously.

02

The whole discipline, not a corner of it

Foundations, biological and cognitive, social and developmental, psychopathology, individual differences and research methods are all compulsory.

03

Research training aimed at postgraduate work

Unit 6 goes as far as designing robust, ethically informed research proposals suitable for postgraduate level study.

04

Psychometrics included

Individual differences and the principles of applied psychology sit in one unit, so testing and measurement are covered rather than skipped.

05

Honest about what it is not

Few Level 7 diplomas publish their own limits. Gatehouse states plainly that this is not a route to practising, which protects you from mis-selling.

06

Entry open to several sectors

Applicants without a degree can be considered on experience in education, health, social care, business or other fields involving human behaviour.

An internationally recognised pathway awarded by Gatehouse Awards.

Why GCC Learners Consider This Qualification

01

A way in from another profession

Nurses, teachers and HR professionals across the Gulf who want to move into psychology need a recognised academic foundation first, and that is what this supplies.

02

Mental health provision is expanding regionally

Demand for psychologically literate staff across health, education and workplace wellbeing has grown, and this covers the academic groundwork.

03

Study locally, qualification regulated in the UK

Gatehouse approves centres outside the UK, so the award can be completed without moving countries.

04

Prepares you for an MSc application

Research methods and a proposal-writing focus are exactly what postgraduate admissions tutors look for in a converting applicant.

05

Know the limit before you enrol

It does not make you a practising psychologist anywhere, including in the GCC. Check your country's licensing body about what registration actually requires.

06

Verify the qualification yourself

The QAN is 610/7550/4 and appears on Ofqual's register. Check that it matches whatever a provider is advertising before you pay.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I work as a psychologist after this?

No, and Gatehouse says so itself in the specification: the qualification provides academic preparation for postgraduate study in psychology and does not confer eligibility to practise as a psychologist or deliver psychological interventions. Becoming a registered or chartered psychologist is governed by the regulator in whichever country you intend to work, and it typically involves accredited degree study plus supervised practice. This is a step on that longer road, not a shortcut around it.

I studied something unrelated. Is that a problem?

It is the reason the qualification exists. Gatehouse calls it a broad bridging award for learners from psychology and non-psychology backgrounds who need a comprehensive academic foundation across the core areas before MSc-level study. The entry criteria even list education, health, social care and business as relevant experience, so a background in any of those is treated as useful rather than as a gap.

Is this the same as the Qualifi Level 7 Diploma in Psychology?

No. They share a name and a level, which causes genuine confusion. The Gatehouse qualification is 610/7550/4 with 360 guided learning hours and units coded from T/652/1920. The Qualifi one is 610/2064/3 with 480 guided learning hours and an entirely different unit set. Different awarding bodies, different content, separate certificates. Check the QAN on any offer letter so you know which you are signing up to.

What does the assessment involve?

Coursework and a Portfolio of Evidence, with no written examination. Across the six units you build written work and supporting evidence, which the centre signs off unit by unit before internal moderation. Gatehouse then moderates externally. The research methods unit asks you to produce an ethically informed research proposal at postgraduate standard, so expect a substantial written piece towards the end.

Will a university accept it for MSc entry?

Gatehouse designed it with MSc progression in mind, but admission is always the receiving university's decision, not the awarding body's. Before enrolling, approach the specific universities you are interested in and ask whether they will accept a 120-credit Ofqual-regulated Level 7 diploma as preparation for their course, and whether they require an accredited conversion course instead. Get the answer in writing.

Who teaches it and what will it cost?

Gatehouse awards the qualification but does not teach. Delivery runs through an approved centre under an exclusivity agreement, so availability is limited rather than open to any provider. The £206 figure Gatehouse publishes is the registration fee a centre pays for the qualification, excluding VAT. Your tuition is a separate price set by the centre, and it varies internationally, so ask for the full cost in writing.
